THE CLIENT
Rola is one of Australia’s largest roof rack and cargo management brands. Known for engineering vehicle-specific roof racks, their products are trusted by drivers across the country. But until recently, their digital footprint lagged behind.
Historically, the brand depended on distributors and third-party stockists. That model served them well for years, but it left limited room for organic traffic growth or direct-to-consumer sales.
After the pandemic shifted consumer habits, Rola saw the opportunity to expand online, and teamed up with Impressive to get there.
THE CHALLENGE
Rola needed to grow organic traffic and increase online revenue from their eCommerce site. But their digital presence had major gaps.
The website ranked for fewer than 4% of its indexed keywords on page 1. Organic traffic was limited. Revenue through the eComm channel barely made a dent in sales.
Even more challenging, their website was built on a custom CMS. That meant every SEO fix had to go through a third-party dev team based in New Zealand, one that wasn’t prioritising technical SEO updates.
On top of that, Rola faced steep competition from digital-first players like Rhino Rack and Pro Rack, who were already ahead in content and search visibility.
STRATEGY
Our approach focused on creating scalable, performance-driven SEO across the entire site. We built a campaign from the ground up by first clarifying goals:
- Improve non-brand organic clicks
- Increase organic eCommerce revenue
- Reach 100% growth across both within 6 months
We started with a full audit of existing rankings, technical gaps, and content assets. From there, we identified three key content types that competitors used to win organic traffic:
- Category landing pages — e.g. “Kayak Roof Racks”
- Location landing pages — e.g. “Roof Racks in Geelong”
- Make and model pages — e.g. “Toyota Corolla Roof Racks”
We mirrored this structure to capture search volume across multiple entry points. Each landing page was custom-built with tailored content, internal linking, and exact-match keyword targeting,/ following the Skyscraper Technique.
We also ran in-depth keyword gap analysis to capture competitor keywords Rola was missing. Keywords were filtered from GSC, SEMrush, and existing indexed queries on page 2 or below.
Once we secured buy-in from the web dev team (through a detailed walk-through of what was required and why), we were able to implement our recommendations with minimal friction.
THE EXECUTION
Execution was grounded in content-first SEO.
Each landing page build-out was informed by keyword research and internal linking opportunities. All content was tailored for relevance, length, and on-page performance.
Technical fixes were lined up and prioritised based on impact. These included:
- Updating page structures and headers
- Fixing crawl and indexation issues
- Optimising metadata and site speed
- Adding structured data for product listings
Pages were built for both long-tail keyword capture and user experience. This included vehicle-specific roof rack searches, location intent, and high-intent category traffic.
We published across high-opportunity pages and maintained an active queue of content to deploy, keeping pace with ranking changes, algorithm updates, and seasonal traffic spikes.
THE RESULTS
After just six months, the SEO campaign hit all its targets, and then some.
- 101% growth in non-brand organic clicks
From 1,710 (May–Oct 2021) to 3,440 (Nov 2021–April 2022) - 147% increase in page 1 keyword visibility
From 164 to 405 ranked terms on page 1 - 1584% increase in organic eCommerce revenue
From $6,618.84 to $111,497.33 across the same period - 801% jump in eCommerce conversion rate
Rola went from barely registering in search results to owning high-intent commercial keywords across vehicle categories, localised searches, and product landing pages. Organic revenue followed.
