Who are Rola Roof Racks, and what were their challenges?
Rola is one of Australia’s largest roof rack and cargo management companies. They are widely known as a business that manufactures roof racks for vehicles of almost all makes and models.
Although the brand has been on the market for a long time, it struggled with a limited digital footprint, relying more on traditional methods to sell its products.
Rola understood that they needed a wider digital reach to develop their brand further. The COVID-19 pandemic was a significant factor that motivated Rola to reconsider its traditional selling model and expand its digital presence. As a solution, Impressive developed an SEO campaign to help Rola achieve its new business objectives.
The challenge with this client was creating a solid SEO strategy from scratch, as well as navigating a custom CMS that meant Impressive relied on the client’s web dev team to implement any recommendations around Technical SEO.
What strategy did Impressive and Rola Roof Racks follow?
Objective: the objective was to improve non-brand organic clicks and increase organic eCommerce revenue.
Our strategy: after conducting some detailed competitor research, we found that on-page content creation was a significant driver of organic traffic growth in this industry. We decided to create a strategy around SEO and content creation for Rola Roof Racks, creating three types of optimised content:
- Category-based landing pages – Landing pages based on different product categories. For example, Kayak Roof Racks.
- Location-based landing pages – These are separate landing pages specifically created for the stockists or distributors that stock the products. Since the distributors are spread across Australia and located in specific geo-locations, these landing pages effectively targeted audiences looking for roof racks in their areas. For example, roof racks in Geelong.
- Make & Model-based landing pages – These pages would target audiences looking for roof racks for a particular vehicle. For example, Toyota Corolla Roof Racks.
How did Impressive implement the SEO and content strategy?
Our keyword research was into three phases: Indexed Keywords, Competitor Keywords and Keyword variations. Once this research was completed, we created a blueprint of the highest-priority keywords and target URLs to address as part of our organic SEO strategy.
Our keywords and target URLs were collected together into a content planner along with briefing instructions for Minicove Homes to approve. Once approved, the Impressive content team got started executing this plan, writing content based on keyword research provided by the SEO team.
At the same time, ongoing technical SEO tasks were conducted, including
- Deep technical audits to identify and resolve any technical SEO issues: for example, the site had issues with 404 errors and broken backlinks which were fixed on a priority basis.
- Ongoing performance monitoring, tracking rankings, traffic and conversions
- Researching industry-relevant blog topics including target keywords and appropriate references. We used the “Topic Research” tool in SEMrush for our research.
What were the results of our work?
Keyword trends
The number of keywords on page #1 for Rola went from 164 in Nov 2021 to 405 by the end of April 2022. This result indicated a massive improvement of 147% in page #1 visibility of the website.
Clicks and Impressions
In the last 6 months, Impressive reached the desired KPI of 100% growth in non-brand clicks. The non-brand clicks (clicks for queries without ‘rola’ in them) grew from 1,710 in May – Oct 2021 to 3,440 in Nov 2021 – April 2022.
Organic traffic growth
Organic revenue for the website rocketed from just $6,618.84 in May – Oct 2021 to $111,497.33 in Nov 2021 – April 2022. This result indicated a growth of 1,584.54% in eCommerce revenue. The eCommerce conversion rate also had a massive jump of 801.36%.
